Mechanics
Power Cap
By default all powers are set to about 10% of their canon strength. This a guideline, not a hard and fast rule. Please be reasonable and think 'does this make my character overpowered?' If so, dial it back even more. (For example, someone who can lift ten football players easily can now only lift one football player easily. Someone who can lift ten planets easily cannot now lift one planet easily but something more reasonable like two football players). You can always nerf your characters more if you want!
The exception to this is healing and revival powers all of these do not work. At all. Please see the healing section for more about this.
When it comes to PVP please approach it as 'would this be fun' and if you are having trouble deciding who wins an encounter, consider using dice. There is a channel in the discord (#diceroll) that you can use for such things. Again, do not god mode and the power cap is in place to make encounters more fair between characters. We encourage players to communicate about IC conflicts and be in contact with those they are actively having combat with.
If it comes to PVE against gods or minions of the gods -- the gods are almost always going to win. They can god mode, in fact. The gods do NOT want to lose their valuable resource (the disciples/your characters) and will not willy-nilly kill them but they all have their limits of patience. But characters who really annoy them are more likely to suffer a time-out jar or some variety of anguish.
Language
Everyone in the Nugget can now speak English. But if they speak something not-English they are also able to use that. However, the 'default' will be English regardless of if they knew it prior to arriving or not.
No other linguistic knowledge has been magically imported (i.e., if a character is unable to read, they can still not read. They can just speak English. Don't worry about it.)
Brands
Upon arrival, every character will find a fresh brand somewhere on their body. They do not remember receiving it, it's just there now.
The brand can be on the palm of a hand, the sole of a foot, the tongue, etc, it varies per person and is your choice OOCly. The only real guidelines are 1. the brand must be visible (so no being branded on your kidney, sorry, tongue and eyelid are as 'hidden' as it can be) and 2. it must be intelligible, so it can't be too small to be read.
These brands cannot be removed, if a character tries to carve them off or mutilate/change them they will simply regrow/be rebranded painfully. There may also be additional consequences with the god of their cult.
Brands are necessary to speak with their god; if you attempt to speak with a god without carrying their brand, all you will hear is terrible, painful noise.
The brands also help the characters maintain their physical form; it allows the gods to support the mortal body and keep the characters 'alive' and this is refreshed when the character sleeps/spends the night in their temple. If a character does not spend a night in their temple every two nights or so their body will decay and so will their mind and spirit and become a lunatic zombie.
Healing & Injuries
Because everyone is trapped in the Stasis, healing and injuries don't follow 'conventional' mechanics. Healing, outside of divine mending, is impossible! But the flipside of that is that injuries are far less destructive.
Examples:
- You get a papercut. It stings just as normal and it will not close on its own. However, you won't spill even a drop of blood.
- Your arm gets cut off. It hurts just as badly as it would before and you cannot reattach the arm until a healing ritual is performed. However, the bleeding is sluggish and will slow/stop far quicker than normal. While you will be without an arm you will be able to go about your normal life only minorly impaired.
- You get a concussion. The immediate pain and disorientation is as would be expected, but you can be back on your feet far sooner than 'in real life'.
- Running really hard for four days in a row. It WILL be exhausting and you will feel hungry and tired and dehydrated and sore. However, while you feel like shit your body still actually can run again even if the spirit isn't willing and also it hurts real bad.
- Stabbed in the heart? If that was your only one and you needed it to be alive, you're still going to die. But maybe it takes a minute or two instead of being instant. And maybe that's enough time to perform a ritual to have a god fix it.
Specific negative status effects/self-inflicted injuries from canons – for example, Overblotting from Twisted Wonderland, using up too much mana from almost any magical canon, etc, follow similar guidelines to injuries. They should be just as dramatic and harmful in their experience as well as just as disruptive as injuries.
Healing Rituals
Any god can be called on to do a healing ritual and anyone who participates in the healing ritual (even if they are not a disciple of that god) can get healing. However, the initiating cult of the ritual will always get the bigger healing kickback. I.E. if Rhys is on Vignei and he performs a ritual to Herbet for healing, any member of Vignei needing healing will get 100% healing and any other cults' members will receive 70% healing maximum.
Healing rituals that want to bring the body back to how it was before are expensive, it should be understood that divine mending is costly. Some gods can provide 'cheaper' healing options, please see below what these are:
- Jen: Eldritch horror body part or healing option. it is horrific, monstrous, possibly doesn't always obey you. Think tentacle arm that also has eyes or dissolves into mist where there should be fingers. These may have more feeling than normal, maybe you can taste colors now, or less.
- Herbert: SciFi prosthetics. Sleek and expensive looking, these tend to be more fragile than many of the other gods' replacements but generally follow a 'normal human aesthetic'. These often have limited capacity for feeling.
- Temis: Animal parts. Yes. These have just as much feeling as you would expect from an animal part.
- Limnly: Plant mending. Some kind of vegetation will replace or mend the wound. Moss will grow instead of skin and a new arm or leg might be made of living willow. These often feel as much as a normal limb would but something feels decidedly different about it.
- Rizus: Glass and/or iron prosthetics, often overly ornate and slower/clunkier than what flesh was previously but also immensely durable. Regardless, they are beautiful and impressive. These often lack feeling.
- The Fool: There is a 15% chance you just get the healing exactly as needed. A hand for a hand, so forth and so on. However, there is also a 85% chance that you get something more. Maybe you need an eye replaced and it has like three irises, or you need an arm replaced and you get that as well as a small bird wing at the small of your back. These are often quite sensitive.
Weather & Day Cycle
The days in the Stasis are exactly 12 hours of sun from the Sunphone and 12 hours of night where the Sunphone does not shine. It is warmer when the Sunphone shines and cooler when the Sunphone does not shine but the difference is 'short sleeves' to 'light jacket'.
Temperature in the Stasis is relatively stable, and weather patterns are simple and predictable. Twice a week, clouds form over the farm and the park and it rains lightly all night. Otherwise, it is always sunny and the wind is always gentle. Any weather phenomenon is brought on by the gods either because of their temper or a ritual from their disciples.
Wishes (Small)
This is a wish that your character asked for to prove the gods power, prior to entering The Stasis. Think of this as a starting buff or debuff that you want for your character. So if you want your character to be missing some memories, their name, or a bodypart, this is how you can have them enter Pyrite lacking those things. This is essentially a small exchange. Any powers gained during this small wish DO follow the power cap, so keep that in mind.
Examples:
- Give up name to gain empathy powers.
- Give up a memory or some memories to heal a minor injury.
- Give up a hand to learn a small truth.
- Give up a power in exchange for another power.
Wishes (Big)
It is this wish, and its eventual fulfillment, that motivates your character to be willing to participate in Pyrite and its various sacrifices and challenges. While this is unchangeable ICly, if you OOCly want to change this later you will just have to handwave/retcon for yourself. ICly this is the wish your character signed the contract for.
There is no requirement that this be huge, but it can be. It can be something small like 'I want to punch Mr. Duty again' and that is the big wish but it will only be granted at the end of the game. It can also be something that seems impossible – bring my mother back to life, save my dying world, make it so I never made that One Big Mistake, etc.
This is the motivation for your character entering Pyrite! So if you need the external motivation for your character to 'play along' with the gods and guidelines, keep that in mind when deciding this.
There may be an opportunity to change this wish ICly, however that is plot locked and may not become unlocked depending on characters' plot progress.
NPC Expectations
Many of the gods will not answer your calls / cannot be counted on to be interact with on demand. Most exchanges should be handwaved or not require NPC threads. If you find yourself pinging the mods for every exchange, please use your own judgment and re-read the Coffers information page. If there is information that is missing from any of the references pages that would aid in making this process smoother, please inform us!
Our goal as mods is to respond to NPC threads within 1-3 days and then have the threads finished within 2 weeks. If the thread gets drawn out for any reason we may handwave/summarize and end the thread.
Some requests for threads or inquiries will be handwaved/summarized immediately for the sake of the mods or the players.Especially if you are in a hurry/do not want to be timelocked by us, please just communicate that OOCly.
The gods do not have the same standards uniformly across them. Some gods may be more willing to do X or Y than other gods and that is how it is. Please see the healing section for some examples of this. Keep in mind most rewards will be 'flavored' with the gods preferences (please see gods and cults for more details).
Communication
Currently, the only mode of mass communication is that of the Sunphone. This is a P.A. system that anyone can use, and it is situated in the center of the main area. It occasionally will spout off announcements on its own as well.
Phones, cellphones, tablets, laptops, computers, etc cannot be purchased from the coffers or your patron gods. Magical communication items can also not be regained this way.
